A van with AC will meet you at your San José hotel at about 8:00 a.m. to start the journey to Café Britt's farm in Heredia, the "city of flowers." In the midst of volcanoes, greenery and a working coffee farm you will participate in Café Britt's award-winning Coffee Tour, Costa Rica's longest running theatrical production. This multimedia presentation highlights coffee's history in Costa Rica and around the world, and the evolution of the "golden bean" from the plantation to your cup! Expert coffee tasters will share their knowledge of the art and science of gourmet coffee appreciation. The journey continues through country roads to the sub-tropical climate of La Guacima in the province of Alajuela; the ideal location for farming butterflies. Following an introductory film, experienced guides explain butterfly natural history, the farm's operations, and answer the inevitable question, "Who buys live butterflies?" All of this takes place in an enclosed garden where hundreds of butterflies, including Blue morphos, "owls," and many other species, fly freely. On export days, you will be able to see the sorting and packing of thousands of butterfly chrysalides. The experience continues with a delicious lunch served in a country restaurant. Our van will return you to your hotel, or anywhere in downtown San José by mid-afternoon. Operated by The Butterfly Farm. |
