Soak up the natural beauty of the pristine Pacuare Canyon in between exhilarating Class III-IV rapids. On this trip you are the special guest of Costa Rica Expeditions’River Guides, who will share with you the history of the Pacuare and the culture of the people of the mountainous Turrialba region. Your guides – turned white-gloved waiters - will also treat you to a gourmet riverbank lunch in their outdoor "river restaurant." The Connoisseur Rafting one-day tour runs year-round. (Minimum age 12 years.)
ITINERARY Early morning pick-up by your River Guide at your hotel in San Jose. There will be no more than one other stop en route to a deluxe Costa Rican breakfast on the way to the river. Upon arrival at the put-in, your professional guides will give an orientation and safety talk. You will then proceed down river on continuous Class III-IV rapids. This trip runs with a maximum of three rafts, compared to other groups that operate with as many as 25 rafts.
As you are swept down the Pacuare Gorge by the currents, soak in the natural beauty of the primary and secondary rainforests surrounding you. Water level permitting, a guide will lead you on a hike up one of the many creeks that spill into the Pacuare. Upon your return to the riverbank, you will find a gourmet lunch prepared by your guides turned white-gloved waiters. (See menu below.)
Float and paddle downriver to the take-out in the Caribbean town of Siquirres where towels and a victory cocktail await. Drive back to your San Jose hotel (approx. two hours). Photo CD included.

Aug. 19, 2008. Pacuare Connoisseur Rafting: “The rafting in particular was amazing…” Paula: I just returned last night and wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed my trip to Costa Rica. The rafting in particular was amazing and I all the guides (Abel, Eduardo, etc.) were really, really top notch. I loved it! I am not sure whether you find this helpful but since I study marketing for a living I was thinking about the way I remembered the two tours (the regular one and the connoisseur) being described.
In my memory, the “white glove service” you described stood out but was not something that I particularly cared for and in fact sounded a bit too elitist for me. What I would have cared for a lot (and what would have made me choose your more exclusive tour in hindsight) was the large number of rafts that these other companies are using as opposed to our 1 raft (or max of 3). That made a BIG difference I thought. I now see that it's something you mention on your web page, but it did not really feature prominently enough in my decision (or maybe it's an attribute that is hard to understand before having participated in a trip). Anyway, I thought I would share this with you in case you find it helpful. Also, the organization of the entire trip was amazing and super smooth. I was very impressed (and I am originally from Germany where we pride ourselves in efficient organization :-))) Thanks again for a wonderful time. I am sure I will be back in the future to see all the things I did not have time for this time.

Jan. 14, 2008. Pacuare Connoisseur Rafting: “We had an absolutely incredible time.”
My husband and I white water rafted with your company this past November. We had an absolutely incredible time and I wanted to take the time to thank you and your employees who we owe the experience. We purchased the Pacuare Connoisseur Rafting Package and were treated like royalty - it was well worth the money! Our rafting guide was Jose ("Macha") who made sure we had smiles on our faces the entire time - and we did! All of the guides were so hospitable, friendly, and knowledgeable. Besides the exhilarating experience on the river (and the great gourmet food), Jose told us so much about Costa Rican history, culture, wildlife - we learned more in that one day than we had in our entire week vacation. Not to mention, the CD of pictures from the day were dropped off at our hotel room a few hours after we returned. We will gladly recommend your company to everyone!
