How to get to Monteverde Lodge & Gardens

Monteverde Lodge is located in the Tilarán Mountain Range, about 15 minutes from the entrance to the Monteverde Cloud Forest. There are several way to get to Monteverde.

Complete Package

Private Transportation

If you would rather not drive yourself and would like to hire a private van and Spanish speaking driver to do the driving for you, we offer transfers to/from anywhere in the country. Both shared and private transfers are available.

Private transportation is by min-van and Spanish speaking driver. You van will have an ice chest with water for each member of group. Although our drivers do not always speak English, they are experienced professional drivers that will take very good care of you en route to Monteverde Lodge & Gardens.

Shared transportation is for no more than 16 guests with Spanish speaking driver. You van will have an ice chest with water for each member of group. Although our drivers do not always speak English, they are experienced professional drivers that will take very good care of you en route to Monteverde Lodge & Gardens. When making your reservation let us know where you would like to be picked up and dropped off and we will send you a quote for either private or shared transportation.

Rental Vehicle

If you choose to rent, be aware that driving conditions in Costa Rica are challenging. There are potholes, very few road signs, and drivers passing on blind curves - sometimes all at once. While you don´t need to be scared, do be aware that thieves and traffic cops looking for bribes routinely target rented cars. Road signs are scarce, maps are approximate, giving precise directions is not one of Costa Rica´s national strengths, and, most important, the unwritten rules of the road are very different from what you are used to.

Tortuga Lodge & Gardens

Tortuga Lodge, situated on 146 acres of private land on Costa Rica's northeast Caribbean coast, was our first hotel. It is now our newest hotel. Everything we have learned about designing nature lodges over the last 11 years has gone into the remodeling of Tortuga Lodge. What we learned can be summarized in three words: "Reflect the place." The Lodge has 26 deluxe rooms and one penthouse.

The essence of Tortuguero is slow-moving tropical rivers. Everything about Tortuguero is defined by the rivers. They are Tortuguero's roads and Tortuguero's soul. If a visitor wants to bring home the essence of Tortuguero he/she must get in tune with the rivers.
