Operations, Procurement & Costa Rica White Water Manager
[email protected]

Ricardo, called Robalo by his fellow guides, has led a very interesting and diverse career at Costa Rica Expeditions. In 1989, he started as a bus driver for group trips. Then he decided that he wanted to become a River Guide. Not speaking a word of English, he signed up for classes at the University and was conversing before the year was up. Working his way through the ranks, Ricardo became one of our head river guides in 1993.

Seven years later, in January 1999, he decided to come ashore to work in the San Jose offices as Operations Manager. Several years later the river called and he went back to managing our rafting operation and guiding river trips once again. Today he divides his time between Operations, Procurement for our main offices and our lodges and our rafting operation.

Ricardo is a vegetarian and one of his passions is organic agriculture, he has several plots where he has everything from his own free-range chickens to oranges to avocados. Ricardo is married to Isabel Garbanzo, the company’s Director of Human Resources. They have been married for 25 years and have two children, Renan and Marcela.
