Eddie was born in San Jose on August 22, 1969. His parents were in the clothing business in San Jose and they had Eddie and two brothers and two sisters. As children, the kids spent a great deal of time in the northwest province of Santa Cruz, Guanacaste with their paternal grandparents. Their grandparents were of Italian descent and immigrated to Costa Rica as a result of World War II.

Eddie says that one of the people that most influenced and inspired him was his grandfather. The time he spent in Santa Cruz on their small cattle farm and the desire to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps, was what made him decide to enroll in the Central American Animal Husbandry School (Escuela Centroamericana de Ganaderia) where he earned a degree in Agricultural Engineering, he continued his studies at the University of Florida where he studied Animal Production.

We weren’t surprised to learn that Eddie ended up working as a Naturalist Guide by accident. After earning his degrees in agriculture and farming, Eddie worked managing a ranch, when the owner suddenly died; Eddie was forced to quickly find a job, given his proficiency in English guiding was a good option. His thought was to work as a guide while he got organized and found another job in his field, but it’s been 25 years since then and he still loves guiding.

What drew Eddie to guiding then and to this day, was the opportunity to be in contact with guests, an excuse to constantly be in contact with the tropical rainforest and outdoors and the challenge of having to constantly learn new things and stay abreast of what is happening in the world.

Eddie spends as much of his free time as possible with his wife Cinthya and his teenage children Eddie and Michelle.  He also tries to run two marathons a year and likes to train with a group of friends.
