Born in San José on August 22, 1969, Eddie Recio grew up in a family dedicated to the clothing business. Along with his siblings, he spent much of his childhood in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, where his paternal grandparents owned a small cattle farm. His grandparents, of Italian descent, had immigrated to Costa Rica after World War II. The time Eddie spent working on the farm — and the strong influence of his grandfather — shaped his early interest in agriculture and the natural world.

He pursued this interest at the Escuela Centroamericana de Ganadería, where he earned a degree in Agricultural Engineering, later continuing his studies in Animal Production at the University of Florida.

Eddie’s path to guiding was unexpected. After completing his studies, he managed a ranch until the owner’s sudden passing forced him to seek new employment. With his strong command of English, guiding became a practical option. What began as a temporary solution soon developed into a lasting vocation, and more than 25 years later, he continues to guide with the same enthusiasm.

Eddie is drawn to guiding by the opportunity to interact with people from around the world, spend time in the tropical rainforest, and continuously expand his knowledge. When not guiding, he devotes as much time as possible to his wife, Kercia, and their children, Eddie and Michelle. He is also an avid runner who aims to complete two marathons each year and regularly trains with a group of friends.
