Joe Bernini
Naturalist Guide

Joe Bernini was born and raised in Costa Rica and belongs to the third generation of a family whose roots in the country date back to the late 19th century, when his great-grandfather immigrated from Italy and settled in Heredia.

He began his career in tourism as the manager of a remote eco-lodge on the shores of Golfo Dulce near Corcovado National Park. During five formative years there, he gained extensive firsthand experience in the lowland rainforest while exploring nearby protected areas and learning about the region’s ecosystems and traditional uses of tropical plants.

Joe later became involved in organizing endurance sports events and currently owns an organic farm in Puerto Jiménez, where he also hosts workshops focused on sustainable building practices. He is an avid outdoor enthusiast who spends his free time trekking mountain trails, trail running, cycling, scuba diving, and swimming.

His path into guiding began while assisting with adventure-focused travel experiences in Costa Rica. Recognizing that guiding allowed him to combine his interests in nature, physical activity, and meaningful interaction with travelers, he pursued it as a long-term profession.

In addition to his outdoor pursuits, Joe enjoys cooking, landscaping, and gardening.
